      What's nearby

Verified places we recommend for guests staying in Bophut — drive times measured from this villa.

      • Fisherman's Village Friday Walking Street, Bophut (about 2 min drive) — Fisherman's Village Walking Street runs every Friday evening from 5pm to 10pm in Bophut, when the beachfront road closes for street-food stalls, crafts and souvenirs; entry is free.
      • Maenam Walking Street (Thursday night market) — Maenam Walking Street is a Thursday evening night market in Mae Nam with Thai street food and craft stalls, open about 5pm to 11pm.
      • Big Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Yai), Plai Laem (about 8 min drive) — Wat Phra Yai (Big Buddha Temple) at Plai Laem is free to enter and open daily from about 6am to 6pm; visitors climb the stairs to the large golden Buddha, with shoulders and knees covered.
      • The Deck Beach Club, Bangrak Beach (about 8 min drive) — Beach club on Bangrak Beach with a per-person minimum spend from THB 500 (VIP beachfront sunbed from THB 1,000), fully credited toward food and drinks; these are mid-season rates - high season is higher. A relaxed day-to-sunset spot minutes from the airport.
      • Choeng Mon Beach - sheltered family bay (plai laem area) — Choeng Mon Beach is a sheltered crescent-shaped bay on the north-east tip of Koh Samui with roughly 1 km of soft white sand. The islands Koh Fan Noi and Koh Fan Yai break the incoming waves, which keeps the water calm - one of the safest swimming beaches on the island and gentle enough for toddlers. (secondary source)
      • Choeng Mon Beach - quiet, no party scene — Unlike Chaweng or Lamai, Choeng Mon has stayed quiet: the bay is lined with mid-range to luxury resorts rather than bars and nightclubs, and a small village road behind the beach has a handful of restaurants, convenience stores and massage shops. (secondary source)
      • Choeng Mon Beach - tides and swimming — Choeng Mon is less affected by tides than many Samui beaches; at low tide the water recedes but stays swimmable in the centre of the bay. (secondary source)
      • Koh Fan Noi and Koh Fan Yai - small islands off Choeng Mon — Two small rocky, uninhabited islands lie just off Choeng Mon. The nearer one (Koh Fan Noi) can be reached by swimming; Koh Fan Yai needs a kayak or a longtail boat. Coral around them makes for decent snorkelling. (secondary source)
      • Plai Laem beach - long, golden, but very shallow — The beach at Plai Laem lies between Big Buddha and Choeng Mon on the north-east peninsula: around 2 km of soft golden, palm-fringed sand, west-facing - but the sea is shallow and swimming is limited, at most about 2 metres deep. (secondary source)
      • Plai Laem - 10 minutes from Bophut and Chaweng — From the Plai Laem peninsula it is about 10 minutes to the popular beaches of Bophut and Chaweng. (secondary source)
      • Ran Khang Non - family-run Khao Soi, Bophut (about 2 min drive) — Ran Khang Non (also listed as Khang Non Cafe) is a small family-run garden restaurant a few steps from the roundabout at the entrance to Fisherman’s Village in Bophut. It is known for Northern-Thai khao soi (chicken or beef) and northern-style pad krapow, and it is popular with locals as much as visitors. Cheap, authentic and a short walk from the Fisherman’s Village villas. (secondary source)
      • PM Payu Muay Thai training, Fisherman's Village (about 2 min drive) — PM Payu Muaythai Gym is in Bophut, a few minutes’ walk from Fisherman’s Village, and open every day 8am-7pm; beginners and children are welcome. Group training is THB 400 (walk-in, Mon-Sat 8am and 5pm), a private small group is THB 600 per person, one-to-one private training is THB 800 per hour (by appointment); kids’ classes (ages 6-13) run Mon-Sat. Booking by WhatsApp.
      • Smiley Cook Thai cooking class, Bophut (about 2 min drive) — Smiley Cook in Bophut runs small-group Thai cooking classes in English (maximum 8 people). THB 2,100 per person including hotel pick-up and return, a market tour, a 2-hour hands-on class and all the food you cook; an accompanying person who does not cook pays THB 1,300.
      • Bang Rak - which beaches are actually closest (map data) (about 8 min drive) — Around Bang Rak the nearest mapped beaches are Hat Bo Phut at about 1.7 km, Plai Leam Beach at about 2.8 km, then Mae Nam Beach, Samrong and Thongson at roughly 3.7-3.9 km. (Distances measured from the Bang Rak centre on OpenStreetMap beach data.) (secondary source)
      • Samui Home Clinic - pediatric care in Bophut — Samui Home Clinic (29/7 Moo 4, Rajabhat University Road, Bophut, near Bang Rak) has English-speaking doctors and offers paediatric care for infants through teenagers; open Monday-Friday 9:00-19:00 with shorter weekend hours. Walk-in, no appointment needed.
      • Wat Plai Laem – 18-arm Guanyin temple, Plai Laem (about 8 min drive) — Colourful lakeside temple complex on the Plai Laem peninsula just south of Big Buddha, famous for its giant 18-arm Guanyin statue and laughing Buddha statue on an island in the pond. Entry is free (donations welcome) and it is open daily roughly 7am–6pm; shoulders and knees must be covered. Perfect free 45-minute add-on to the Big Buddha visit.
      • Maenam Beach – quiet free north-coast beach — Maenam Beach is a long, quiet north-coast beach with soft sand and calmer, gentler water than Chaweng; it rarely gets crowded even in peak season and has fewer vendors, so it suits families, elderly guests and anyone wanting a peaceful free swim or kayak. Public access, no entrance fee.

      • Grab on Koh Samui — typical fares and availability — Grab (the ride-hailing app) works on Samui and is usually cheaper than a street taxi for the same trip, though pricier than on the Thai mainland. Availability is thinner outside Chaweng and there is no Grab pickup at the airport; surge pricing applies in rain and peak season. Reported fares for a short ride: roughly 180-400 THB (typical range from several secondary sources - there is no official Grab tariff for Samui).
      • Street taxis on Koh Samui — flat prices, no meters — Samui taxis have meters in theory but almost never use them, so agree a flat fare before getting in. Reported fares: roughly 300-600 THB for a beach-to-beach trip and over 1,000 THB cross-island (typical ranges from several secondary sources - there is no official tariff).
      • Songthaews (red pickup trucks) — the cheapest way around — Songthaews are the local shared red pickup trucks on the ring road: flag one down like a bus, they are the cheapest way around, and they leave when full. Reported fares: roughly 30-100 THB per hop between Chaweng, Lamai and Bophut (typical range from several secondary sources - there is no official tariff). After dark they often switch to fixed taxi prices.
      • Emergency numbers in Thailand (police, ambulance, fire, tourist police) — Thailand emergency numbers: 191 police (also the general emergency line), 1669 ambulance / medical emergency, 199 fire, 1155 Tourist Police (English-speaking help for visitors).

(secondary source - check opening times locally)
      • Convenience stores: 7-Eleven, Mini C and Tops daily/mini — Convenience stores (7-Eleven, Mini C and the small Tops formats) are scattered all over Koh Samui; they carry a smaller range but are open 24 hours and can be found in nearly every part of the island. (secondary source - check opening times locally)
      • Nathon Night Food Market (daily local market) — Nathon Night Food Market runs every evening 16:30-22:00 in the centre of Nathon on the west coast — a proper local market with cheap grilled skewers, noodles and desserts, far less touristy than Chaweng and popular with Thais. (secondary source)
      • Samui Elephant Sanctuary - ethical elephant visit with children — Samui Elephant Sanctuary (two sites: Bophut and Chaweng Noi) offers half-day morning and afternoon programmes of about 3 hours, plus a shorter 1.5-hour elephant encounter at Chaweng Noi. Low-season promotion: adults THB 2,900, children (5-11 years) THB 1,400. It describes itself as ethical elephant tourism and does not offer bathing.
      • Pink Elephant Samui Water Park, Mae Nam — Pink Elephant Samui Water Park in Mae Nam has a wave pool, a lazy river, more than 15 slides and a dedicated toddler area - the obvious big day out for families. Admission prices differ between sources and change with promotions, so no figure is published here; check the price at the gate or on the official site. (secondary source)
      • Banks and ATMs on Koh Samui — The major Thai banks are all present on Koh Samui - Bangkok Bank, Kasikornbank (KBank), Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), Krungsri (Bank of Ayudhya), Krungthai, TMBThanachart and CIMB Thai - with bank branches, ATMs and currency-exchange counters across the island. (Counted from OpenStreetMap objects for the island.) (secondary source)
      • ATM fees for foreign cards - what to expect — Thai ATMs charge a flat fee per withdrawal with a foreign card: 220 THB at every ATM on Koh Samui (a figure fixed by Thai regulation, verified 2026-09-18). Most ATMs cap a single withdrawal at 20,000-30,000 THB (Bangkok Bank and Krungsri tend to allow the higher end), and your home bank may add its own foreign-transaction fee of about 1-3% on top. Taking out larger amounts less often keeps the fee proportionate. (secondary source)
      • Weather and seasons on Koh Samui - when to come — Koh Samui runs on its own weather calendar: it sits in the Gulf of Thailand, so it is largely spared the south-west monsoon that soaks Phuket and Krabi from May to October. The island wet season arrives later, with the north-east monsoon, and is concentrated in October and November (November is usually the wettest month). December to March is the driest, sunniest window with calm seas and also the peak season for prices. March to June stays dry and is the value window. July to September is a shoulder period with mostly good mornings and short afternoon showers. Rain in the wet months usually comes in bursts of one to three hours rather than all day.
      • Scooter rental on Koh Samui - prices, licence, helmet — Scooter rental on Koh Samui costs about 300-400 THB per day for a standard automatic (Scoopy 110 / Click 125 = 300, Click 150 = 350, Click 160 / PCX 150 = 400 THB), a PCX 160 or ADV 160 around 500 THB, and a big scooter such as an ADV 350, Forza 350 or Xmax 300 about 900 THB per day. Helmets and a phone holder are normally included, with free delivery for longer rentals. (Prices from the operator rental list.)
      • Scooter rental - never leave your passport as a deposit — Many rental shops ask for your passport as a deposit. Do not hand it over: it is the leverage used in damage-claim disputes, where a shop demands 5,000-30,000 THB for damage on return. Pay a cash deposit instead, or use a shop that accepts a passport photocopy. Before riding away, photograph and video the bike from every angle - wide shots and close-ups of every existing scratch - and have the damage noted on the rental form. Shops in Bophut and Mae Nam have the better reputation; the Chaweng tourist strip has the worst. If a shop holds your passport and demands cash, call the Tourist Police on 1155.
      • Car rental on Koh Samui - prices and licence — A small car rents for about 800-1,500 THB per day and an SUV for about 1,500-2,500 THB per day, available at the airport and from agencies across the island. An International Driving Permit with car Category B is officially required. Driving is straightforward: one main ring road around the island plus a few inland shortcuts.
      • Driving licence for scooters and cars on Koh Samui — An International Driving Permit with the motorcycle category is required to ride a scooter legally, and the car category (B) for a car; Thai police do check, and a car-only permit does not cover a scooter. Rental shops rarely ask, which is why this surprises visitors on the road. (secondary source)
      • Babysitting & nanny services on Koh Samui — Babysitting agencies on the island (e.g. Nanny Service Koh Samui, Samui Nannies) charge about 400 THB per hour with a 4-hour minimum, and roughly 3,000-3,200 THB for a full 8-hour day nanny; carers come to your hotel or villa. Book at least a day ahead in high season.
      • Lipa Noi Beach - calm shallow water for kids — On the quiet west coast just south of Nathon, Lipa Noi has soft sand and calm, shallow water that stays gentle metres out, plus the island's best sunsets; it is far less crowded than Chaweng and works well for toddlers and weak swimmers. Free to visit.
      • Minigolf International Samui, Bophut — An 18-hole minigolf course in Bophut on the north of the island, a short walk from Choeng Mon Beach. Adult entry is reported as 300 THB (travel guide) or 400 THB (the operator's own site, which did not load for the check), and children under 12 as 200 THB - so the adult price is NOT fixed here; confirm it at the gate. (secondary source)
      • Secret Buddha Garden (Tarnim Magic Garden), Maenam — A hidden sculpture garden of concrete figures, Buddhas and animals built by a local durian farmer (Nim Thongsuk) from the 1970s, in the jungle hills above Lamai/Maenam and reached only by a steep, rough road - a 4x4, a private driver or an island safari tour. Entry is about 80 THB per person and it takes 30-45 minutes. Opening hours differ between sources (8am-5pm or 9am-6pm) - do not rely on a fixed time. (verified 2026-09-18 against discoverkosamui.com; four further sources agree on the 80 THB)
      • Wat Khunaram – the mummified monk, south Samui — A working temple on Route 4169 in south Samui (between Lamai and Nathon) that displays the mummified, sunglasses-wearing body of the monk Luang Pho Daeng, who died in 1973, in a glass case. Free to enter (merit donations welcome), open daily roughly 7am–6pm; shoulders and knees should be covered. A short, genuinely local cultural stop on the island loop.
      • Koh Samui Hospital (public), Nathon — cheap ER — Koh Samui Hospital (โรงพยาบาลเกาะสมุย) is the island's only public hospital, just outside Nathon on the west coast - the most affordable option on the island, with a 24-hour emergency department and walk-in care. It handles emergencies and basic care; complex cases are referred to Surat Thani on the mainland. Emergency phone +66 77 421 230, or the national number 1669. (verified 2026-09-18 against thailandsafe.app; the hospital's own site samuihospital.moph.go.th confirms the 24h emergency service)
      • Villa laundry pickup: 290 THB per 6 kg — Samui Wash & Dry collects wash-dry-fold from villas and hotels island-wide and returns it next day for 290 THB per 6 kg (490 THB for same-day express); local shop-front laundry is cheaper again at roughly 30–40 THB/kg.
      • Banyan Tree 'Rainforest' spa — rainy-day luxury — Banyan Tree Samui (Maret, between Chaweng and Lamai) has the island's only full hydrothermal 'Rainforest' circuit. The prices differ widely by treatment and the specific figures previously published here (7,500 / 8,500 THB) appear in no source, so they are NOT repeated: a secondary guide lists roughly 2,000-2,800 THB for a 60-90 min massage, 3,500-4,500 THB for the 90-min Rainmist, and 9,000-13,000 THB for the 3-hour Royal Banyan couple's ritual. Confirm the current menu at booking. (secondary source)
      • Airport shared minivan: 100 THB per person to Chaweng — Samui Airport's official transport counter also sells shared minivans priced per person: 100 THB to Bangrak, Bophut and Chaweng, 150 THB to Maenam, Lamai and Hua Thanon, and 200 THB to Nathon ferry - the cheapest way off the airport. One van only leaves once it has a minimum of 5 passengers, so a private car is faster.
      • Private car with driver: 4,500 THB per 8-hour day — Hiring a car with driver for a full day (8 hours, unlimited stops, no kilometre cap, priced per vehicle) is the most expensive in Thailand on Samui: about 4,500 THB for an SUV and 5,500 THB for a van, against roughly 3,000-3,500 THB in Bangkok or Chiang Mai. Good value when split across a big group.
      • Hua Thanon Fish Market – working wet market, south of Lamai — A genuinely local wet market in the Muslim fishing village of Ban Hua Thanon, just south of Lamai on the ring road; open daily roughly 07:00–18:00 but mornings are the real window, when boats land fresh fish, prawns and squid next to southern-Thai food stalls, fruit and produce. Free to browse, cash and small notes only.
      • SITCA Thai cooking class, Chaweng – ~1,650–1,850 THB — Samui Institute of Thai Culinary Arts (SITCA) at 46/6 Moo 3, Chaweng Beach runs structured 3-hour demo-and-practice Thai cooking classes twice daily at 11:00 and 16:00, teaching 3–4 dishes, from about THB 1,650–1,850 per person. Book ahead; a more serious culinary-school option than the hotel classes.
      • Tree Bridge Zipline & Waterfall, Maenam – from ~1,595 THB — A 2-hour zipline course through the jungle canopy at Tree Bridge on the island's north side, from about THB 1,595–1,695 per person for 8–9 cables plus a waterfall stop. Hotel pickup from Chaweng, Bophut, Maenam, Choeng Mon and Lamai costs about THB 200 per person extra.
      • Zazen Restaurant, Bophut – beachfront Thai fine dining — Beachfront Thai-and-international fine dining at 177 Moo 1, Bophut Beach (Zazen Boutique Resort & Spa), known for its massaman curry and romantic sunset setting. Set menus run about THB 1,400–2,800 per person; smart-casual dress and a reservation are recommended.
      • Ranong 2 Restaurant, Chaweng – cheap local Thai, open late — A no-frills local Thai eatery in Chaweng open roughly 3pm to midnight, popular with residents for cheap, authentic dishes (grilled and Isaan-style) well away from the beachfront tourist prices.
